On a cold winters day in Melbourne we decided we felt like something sweet.
Scouring the endless foodie accounts on Instagram there's a recurring dessert which seemed to keep popping up....a beautiful looking dessert topped with fairy floss. This incredible beautifully presented menu item was the Ricotta Hotcakes at North Melbourne's 5 Lire.
They say a picture tells a thousand words...If this is true maybe this blog post can end right here...?
Ah what the hell, I will keep going by explaining how amazing this food really was.
It was AMAZING. Here's another view of this bad boy...
Possibly one of the best Hotcakes I've ever tasted. Everything was there, the nice warm hotcakes surrounded by Nutella and a crunchy crumble that lay to it's side and along with the sweet fairy floss on top, the flavours all combined to create a heavenly sweet, warm, cold, crunchy delicious meal.
It demanded attention. Not only from us. But even fellow passers by wanted a piece of the 5 Lire action.
Do yourself and your taste buds a favour and head to this small cosy cafe in North Melbourne. It's just a short tram ride from the city and well worth the visit. And if you come on a freezing cold day like we did make sure to try their delicious coffee to warm you up to.
